Acupuncture in Winter ❄️

Four common reasons for acupuncture in WINTER:

Immune System

With all the colds and flus going around it’s important that we stay on top of our general health and support our immune system. Acupuncture is one of the ways to do this.

Chinese Medicine has such wonderful ways of supporting your immune system and I’d have to say that since we had a pandemic I’ve been mastering the art of staying well and cold free and love to share these tips and tricks when you visit. Apart from building and supporting your overall health to support your immune system, my top tip is to try if possible to avoid close contact with others who are unwell. This is quite literally how we ‘catch a cold’. Of course this isn’t always possible and of course prevention by building your immune system and reducing stress is key. What we want to aim for if we do catch a cold is a strong immune system that can fight it off and have a speedy recovery.

Digestion

This brings us to digestion. It’s said that up to 70% of our immune cells are in the gut. Winter is the perfect time to cook up easy to digest broths and soups with lots of healing whole foods to nourish and support our digestion. There is always work to be done on digestion and acupuncture is fantastic in many ways at helping to support, soothe and regulate our digestion. Helping to regulate our bowel movements, relieve cramping and improver the appetite.

Injuries

I’m seeing a lot of injuries at the moment and often do at the change of a season. Different foot wear. Cold weather contracting muscles. Old injuries reappearing. I myself have had my vulnerable left ankle swell with a twitch or wrong step. I go straight for my needles to speed the recovery and take it easy on that side for a few days. After a bike accident a few years ago I went from not being able to put my foot on the ground to bear any weight to walking normally after 4 days of daily treatment. For any injury the sooner you can get acupuncture the better. Always get checked out by your doctor too if it’s a more serious injury.

Low Mood

This low mood seems to come hand in hand with the darker days. The nourishing and regulating effects of acupuncture help to still the mind and allow the rest that might be needed at this time of year. A definite time to drop into a slower pace and be at ease with this. No matter your mood you are welcomed and supported here.
